Sydney Guitarist/Singer/composer Jess Green, has been based in Sydney since 2004, after completing a bachelor of Jazz studies at Canberra School of Music. Since arriving in Sydney, Jess has established herself as a gifted musician and composer as well as a sought after teacher. She currently leads various jazz/blues/rock ensembles including The Bright Sparks, a stellar line-up of Sydney jazz musicians with whom she recorded in 2005, and has performed for many of Australia’s premier Jazz institutions, including the Sydney Jazzgroove Association, The Melbourne Jazz Co-op (Bennett’s lane), and SIMA. Her other groups include The Pre-loved, a three piece comprising of acoustic guitars and harmonies, and her Rock group “The New Dynamites.
She is also a sought after “sideman” , she is a member Jim Conway’s Big Wheel, and is also part of the Conway brother’s “Re-Ignition” of iconic Aussie group; The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band. As well as this Jess performs occasionally with The catholics, alongside jazz luminaries such as Lloyd Swanton and Sandy Evans.
Jess is a regular tutor at Sandy Evans’ Young Women’s Jazz Workshops, and since 2008 Jess has been touring regularly for Musica Viva.
She is also a regular lecturer at The Australian Institute of Music and she was a nominee for the Freedman Jazz Fellowships in 2007 and won the Jann Rutherford Memorial Award in 2006.
