Bellarine Tourism and Tourism Victoria have worked together to bring about a showcase of the Bellarine in Melbourne, at Federation Square on Sunday 28th February 2010 (10am – 5pm).

The Atrium at Federation Square will be turned into a Bellarine Beach Party with live music, marine displays, winery cellar doors and local produce of the Bellarine Taste Trail. This special event is free to attend and looking to attract well over a 1,000 visitors to the Atrium.

Highlights on the day will include live music performances (11am – 4pm) by Jimi Hocking & Mojo Webb, two of the artists featured on one of the most unique and popular attractions in the region - the legendary Blues Train.

Bellarine Tourism President, Hugo T. Armstrong said the event is an amazing opportunity for the Bellarine to show Melbourne residents what is on their doorstep, and the likes of artists such as Jimi Hocking showed the level and quality of experiences available on The Bellarine.

“In 2005, Jimi won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennesee, following his winning the title of Blues Performer of the Year, awarded by Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society in October 2004. He even played a little blues to BB King himself … who declared, 'I been watching you, you’re real good’... Jimi is an amazingly talented artist who is going to be a major crowd pleaser in February”. Said Mr Armstrong.

The Marine Discovery Centre will also be on display, allowing visitors to view marine creatures and environments in a special interactive exhibit. Other marine based operators will also have on display information about Bellarine diving, snorkelling, scenic touring, fishing, swimming with dolphins or Australian fur seal experiences.

“The Bellarine Taste Trail will have a major display, with seven ‘cellar doors’ offering free wine tasting of the region’s distinct cool climate wines from award winning boutique wineries. Wineries on site will include Leura Park Estate, Bellarine Estate and Oakdene Vineyards. If a wine takes your fancy you can buy a bottle to take home. With many Bellarine wineries selling only to restaurants or at the cellar door, this will be a rare opportunity to taste and pick up product normally only available in region.” Said Destination Bellarine Marketing Officer, Emma Crameri.

Visitors will be able to sample the wares from Lighthouse Olive Grove and Mason’s Creek Olive Grove. You will also be able to taste fresh blueberries and a range of jams and other berry delights from the Tuckerberry Hill Blueberry Farm, celebrating the opening of their new café and berry shop in Drysdale.

A variety of special discount vouchers will be available on the day and a range of amazing prizes up for grabs including a ‘learn to dive’ course thanks to Dive Victoria (Queenscliff Dive Centre).
