Gypsy King Jones delivers groove heavy, growling blues steeped in tradition and swagger. Drawing from Texas country blues, the Mississippi Delta, Hill Country grooves, and New Orleans street sounds, he blends these influences with a distinctly Australian edge to create a sound entirely his own.
A fixture on Melbourne’s live music scene and a favourite across regional Victoria, GKJ is known for high energy performances, dynamic guitar work and vivid storytelling. Channeling the spirit of blues icons like Lightnin’ Hopkins and Snooks Eaglin, his shows evoke the raw soul of juke joints and back-porch sessions.
His latest EP, I Came Here to Groove (June 2025), was recorded live to ½” analogue tape on a vintage 1969 four-track — no overdubs, no safety nets. The EP debuted at #17 on the Australian Blues & Roots Charts, with lead single Struck Like Lightnin’ reaching #2 on the AMRAP Metro Singles Chart, cementing GKJ as one of Australia’s most compelling blues and roots artists.
