Alex Hahn & the Blue Riders

Appearing Next on The Blues Train:

“A singer who generates the passion, insecurities, bruises and lionheart of truly iconic performers such as Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin and Etta James.” – The Orange Press.

In 2013, Alex produced her debut album The Wallflower – a tribute to Etta James, with her 7-piece soul band The Blue Riders. The album was placed on the 'Highly Regarded' list for the much-coveted Coopers Australia Music Prize. It is performed with the brutal emotional honesty that has come to define Alex’s powerful voice and has received glowing reviews from audiences and critics alike.

In 2014 Alex was nominated for the NSW Emerging Creative Talent Awards and was also awarded an Honorable Mention in the Unsigned Only Competition in Nashville, Tennessee for her vocal performance on her track I'd Rather Go Blind.

From 2014-2016 Alex took The Wallflower on tour across Europe, America and Australia which culminated in headlining spots at The San Jose Summer Jazz Fest (USA), Guinness International Cork Jazz Festival (IRE), Callander Jazz & Blues Festival (UK), Wangaratta Jazz and Blues Festival, Blues on Broadbeach and the International Women’s Jazz Festival, to name just a few.

As well as her live work, Alex has also lent her voice to numerous short films, television commercials and notably, provided vocals for DreamWorks Acer Arena Spectacular, How To Train Your Dragon.

Now a fulltime Melbournian Alex Hahn & the Blue Riders are excited to bring their high-energy show to The Blues Train in 2017

"Soul singer Alex Hahn's new release The Wallflower works like a voodoo charm. Hahn and her band never hit a weak spot" – Jazzscene.

"I hear hints of the histrionics of Joplin and the soul-deep stylings of Aretha, but, most of all, I hear a ripping, arsey, brassy, young singer." – Crikey.com

"She prowls and purrs, like a big cat, on heat. It's Etta, Eartha and Tina rolled into one sizzling girl thang. The Hahn signature is incendiary and indelible." – Australian Stage
