An independent and prolific creator that follows several disciplines, Smith has been awarded multiple awards for both Music and film making. A musician/writer, first and foremost, he has received critical acclaim for his work in theatre and TV and as a singer-songwriter. As a performer, Damon is absurdly hilarious, musically brilliant and as a writer he is refreshingly honest and deeply transparent, particularly in his mission to create awareness and speak his truth about living with OCD and bipolar disorder in a bid to reduce stigma related to talking about mental illness.
A person who lives with these often debilitating mental disorders, with diagnosis of Bi Polar disorder, OCD, and recently, ADHD, he has used his experience with mental illness in his work which has resulted in a live show called Mental As Everything, now an award winning film. The show has played in several world class festivals including, The Adelaide Cabaret Festival, The Festival of Voices (Hobart) Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Cabaret Festival and has toured Victoria as part of Regional Arts Victoria’s 2020/2021 touring season. The film debuted at the MDFF in 2021 a month after its completion and went on to win awards both internationally, and in Australia. Damon has written and performed in multiple self-written, hugely contrasting stage shows that have all amassed 4 and a half and 5-star reviews that have toured theatres across Australia and his work has been featured on countless podcasts, radio stations and television programs and have been featured exclusively on ABC and SBS TV.
