Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2007 Australian Blues Music Awards and semi-finalist in the 2012 International Songwriting Competition, Marisa Quigley is unquestionably a self-made songstress and a voice to be reckoned with.
Moving to Victoria and forming blues band Chubby Rae & the Elevators with guitar maker Jim Dyson, Quigley really found her feet. It was in this solid foundation of raunchy, up-beat rhythm ‘n’ blues that Quigley truly found her voice and developed her passion and flair. The 2011 self-titled release saw Quigley’s writing rise to new heights. The album opened at No. 1 in the Blues & Roots Music: Australian Radio Charts.
Once tagged “possibly the blackest white woman since Janis Joplin” by Forte Magazine, Quigley has used this strong grounding in powerhouse blues belting to develop the soulful, unique style that is unmistakably hers today With an eclectic blend of blues/roots, country/folk, a wink and a nudge, a tickle and a poke, her act is soulful, powerful, fun and endearing.
