Ezra Lee smashes out ‘50s era roots rock’n’roll with the raw integrity that comes from decades of performing in pubs and clubs around Australia, although he’s just as comfortable on huge stages in the UK, Europe and the USA. Ezra’s repertoire is everything from thumping boogie woogie to the most soulful, tear-in-your beer honky tonk, all propelled along by his red-hot rhythm section.
Ezra was born in Tamworth, NSW and has been playing piano from age four, learning from his father and being influenced by the 1930s and ’40s western swing, boogie woogie and blues as well as all the ’50s rockabilly and rock ‘n’ roll artists.
At age 14, Ezra joined the award-winning blues band Johnny Green’s Blues Cowboys in Maitland NSW with his father Ed Matzenik (The Atlantics, Track Records London) on bass.
Since then, Ezra has toured internationally and recorded for Press-Tone Music in Australia and Rhythm Bomb Records in Germany and worked with Wanda Jackson, Linda Gail Lewis, Australian rock group Rose Tattoo as well as performances at The Sydney Opera House with James Blundell, Nick Barker, Dave Larkin and Doug Parkinson and support for Bill Haley’s Original Comets in Spain and ‘ The Killer’ Jerry Lee Lewis in Las Vegas.
